Game of Thrones: a fantastico show

A lot of people have asked me why I am such a big fan of the TV show Game of Thrones. I might add here, it's not at all surprising that almost all of the people who have asked me this question have never watched the show! So, let me tell you why I think this show is fantastico.

Game of Thrones, based on the novels written by George R R Martin, is something that can be likened to a modern day epic. The uniqueness of the show lies in the fact that it can't be classified into just one genre. It's got elements of drama, suspense, horror, comedy, murder, romance - you name it, it's got everything. Their cast comprises some of the best actors in the world - never for a moment would you feel that a particular scene could have been performed any better.

Perhaps the greatest charm of Game of Thrones lies in its unpredictability. You predict ten possible outcomes of a certain episode - chances are that it's most likely going to be the eleventh one. The show has been famous (and infamous) for its regular and merciless killing of important characters - but the net effect has been that it has only added to the value of the story.

Each character in Game of Thrones has a tale of their own. In Ned Stark, we got to see a great and just leader who prided honor over everything else - and ultimately succumbed to it. Joffrey was the manifestation of pure evil - there have been a lot of villains in television in many years, but hardly has there been anyone as universally hated as Joffrey Lannister. Ramsay Snow, of course, is coming really close too. It remains to be seen what his plan of action is going to be in the sixth season.

Arya Stark has been the idol of everyone watching the show - her fearless determination and courage is on its way to achieving cult status.

A description of this show, however short, would not be complete without the mention of two of the most important characters - Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow. Tyrion, a dwarf played by the legendary actor Peter Dinklage is one of the most amazing multi-faceted characters in the history of television. I would not add much about him as it would be a spoiler for those who haven't watched the show yet! And as for Jon Snow, he is one of the most idealistic characters in the show, though far from perfect. That's yet another reason which makes the characterization so alluring - each person in the series has a complex character which is neither totally black nor white; much like us in real life. This show does not use plot tool clichés and instead brings out an eerie sense of realism amidst the medieval setting and the supernatural forces. This great saga of gigantic proportions is indeed what makes it fantastico.
