The impact of his daughter

Rajesh Kumar was a famous politician. He was an important minister of the ruling party and thus, had a huge influence in the daily working of the government. Of course, he did have one thing in common with other politicians that he knew; he wasn't always very honest. A large amount of the money he earned wasn't by legal ways. In fact it was this money that was the reason for his lavish lifestyle.

His family lived in a gigantic mansion and his kids were raised like princes and princesses. They went to the best schools and tuition centres; they basically had the best of everything! He loved his children a lot. One day, he saw something that moved his heart and impacted him in a way that changed him forever.

“Here are your flaps, Sameera” Rajesh told his daughter, tucking her flaps into place and buttoning them up. “And your stars. I'm proud of you, honey,” he told her, pinning her prefect stars to her flaps.
His daughter smiled as he kissed her forehead and took her out to the front yard, where the bus would pick her up.
After he waved goodbye, he went back to his room where the maid’s daughter had kept a warm cup of tea ready for him.

One evening just after he had come back a little earlier than usual from a meeting, he heard the voice of two girls coming from her daughter’s room. This was odd; his daughter was supposed to be alone at this time and there were never usually any friends over at their house.

The door was open. He went inside and saw something strange - his daughter was sitting next to her maid’s daughter, and they appeared to be reading something. He looked closer; they were reading what appeared to be a kindergarten book. Surprised, he shouted, “What are you doing with her, Sameera?!”
The two girls stopped immediately. The maid’s daughter quickly ran out of the room.
“Er, Dad.. noth-nothing….”, his daughter stammered.
“Why are all these LKG books here?”, he asked.
“Er.. I was trying to teach Kaveri how to read and write, Daddy..”
“Don’t you have anything to study?”
“My exams got over just yesterday, Daddy. I finally found the time to teach her something. She is very interested in studying, Daddy.” said Sameera.

Rajesh didn’t speak a word; he silently went back to his room and thought about what his daughter had said. Here was his daughter, of his very own blood, who took out the time to teach their maid’s daughter how to read the next day after her exams - when she could easily be touring the city with her friends in their Mercedes. And what was he doing, looting public money and spending it all on his personal luxuries?

That incident deeply impacted his life and he decided to be a changed man after that. He went on to set up a big charity foundation which strived to provide education to thousands of poor children across the country. And the name of that organization? Yes, you guessed it right. It was named the Sameera Foundation for the Education of Children.
