The life-changing impact of a movie

I watched a movie in the summer of 2010 that, like many others, had an impact on me that changed my life for the better.

It was a Jim Carrey movie called Yes Man. It's a movie about a man who's stuck in a rut, after being left by his girlfriend whom he still longs for. He avoids company and spends his spare time cooped up in his home, alone. He is grumpy and apathetic, not willing to move much out of his comfort zone. He doesn't see the purpose of living further, and wonders if it would make a difference if he was dead, since he never did much anyway.  He meets an old friend, who convinces him to attend a course, which he ends up going to. There, he makes a commitment to say "Yes" to every opportunity that comes his way for an entire year. Like a rough bump that smashes into the wheels of a car in the middle of a smooth road, this one decision shakes up and turns his entire life over, juggling all the good to the top!

Since he is obligated to say yes to everything, he doesn't leave a single stone unturned; he picks up everything that is strewn on his path and makes the best of it. He turns into someone that he, himself loves more! His newfound enthusiasm brings all the difference he needed to make him satisfied. He gets a new girlfriend, which helps him to stop pining for the girl that left him. He even gets a better position at his job, putting him out of monotony. He can even speak a new language. Everything starts to work out for him! People begin to love him more than ever before. The story ends in saying in a misadventure, teaching us that we ought to think twice before saying yes; it's only good to expose ourselves to things that are positive!

Personally, I'm someone who prefers to stay locked up in my own room, surrounded by familiar walls and the things I love around me, so this movie had a significant impact on me. It showed me what I'm missing by not willing to step outside my comfort zone.

There's a whole other world out there, waiting for you to step out into it, so that it can offer you countless opportunities to morph into something that you wouldn't ever have imagined. The things that can come your way to help you grow are endless. So why stay the same? Why not take a step into the open and try your hand at everything there is? If you're someone like me, you should definitely watch the movie too as it is bound to make an impact on you, however small. Who knows what kind of great opportunities you're turning down every day?
