The fantastico thing about solitude

Solitude is fantastico! It really is. Of course it's a blessing to have company, but only as long as you don't let yourself depend on it. The company you have around yourself isn't constant; the only companion you shall have forever is you alone.

Last month, I had gone for a holiday with my family. We were in a remote place virtually cut off from the rest of the world, and even when I had access to signals, I chose to keep my phone switched off. Those were some of the best moments of my life. It gave me a wonderful time to introspect and to really get to know myself. Time spent with yourself in silence, alone with your thoughts is a great way to becoming more mature. It's easy to rush through life without giving yourself a moment to sit back and ponder at what your life is all about. It's easy to rush through life without knowing what things you've done, things you want, or things you're proud of. Some quiet solitude will pull you out of that rut and make you realise things about everything that has been swooping right past you.

I'm sure most of the great people in the world didn't achieve great heights by always tagging along with their friends. Neither did they always wait for them to head further; they were alone in their pursuit, as the saying goes, “it’s always lonely at the peak of the mountain”. The mind is at its calmest only when it’s isolated, and sometimes, it can work wonders.

Being alone sometimes means being braver and being stronger. Being alone means being more capable. It also means knowing how to accept and love oneself. But then, it’s one thing to be alone, and something completely different to be lonely. A person who enjoys his own solitude does not lament the presence of company; he revels in it and finds peace in it.

In the end it all spirals down to you, what you have done for yourself, and what you have done for others. What others have done for you doesn't add to your own excellence, ever! It is thus pointless to always follow the herd and be one among the “crowd”, it gives much more satisfaction to do what your heart really tells you to. This is what makes solitude one of the most beautiful things ever. I personally believe that me, and many people whom I know need to take a break once in a while, unwind and stay out of touch from the world every once in a while in order to refresh ourselves. It might seem daunting at first; but once you get into the zone, it is a fantastico feeling indeed.
